Hmm, havent posted a blog in a while. I have to say, i do find it rather tedious. but there is some interesting news i'd like to share...on the 8th of december i begin a two week stint on codfish island, working with a rare and very endangered bird, the kakapo! here is more info: http://www.kakaporecovery.org.nz/. but in short, they are amazing creatures. they are parrots-the largest in the world, flightless, nocturnal, and extremely cute! they didnt stand a chance against human-introduced predators, so now they are on two island sanctuaries. there are around 120 birds in existence. not many people have this opportunity-not many new zealanders have even seen a kakapo. there was a last minute cancellation, so i am heading south. the island is off stewart island, which is south of the south island of NZ. quite remote. i'll be hiking out to give them supplementary food, at least thats the idea. so on monday and tuesday i take a ferry, a train, a bus, and a plane, south. its very exciting, though i have loved wellington and the people i met and am staying with here. Summer is finally here, it's been quite warm this week.
wish me safe travels!
